EdenFrost was called on to create an integrated package of official communications for the City of Amsterdam’s International Press Office for the biggest event of the year.
The client
The municipal government for Amsterdam is the administrative hub of the city and provides a wide range of services, including immigration and registration, waste and recycling, housing, healthcare and work and income.
The brief
On 30 April 2013, the abdication of Queen Beatrix and the inauguration of her son King Willem-Alexander took place in Amsterdam. As one of the biggest and busiest days in the city's calendar, the day’s smooth running depended on a carefully managed communication strategy – before, during and after the event. As a small agency with a flexible and agile approach, we were perfectly poised to do exactly this.
The strategy
EdenFrost created a cohesive range of official English-language communications on behalf of the City of Amsterdam's Press Office, covering everything from digital promotion to speech writing for the Mayor of Amsterdam and on-site press coordination on the day.
The result
Online communication
During the build-up to the inauguration, we promoted the official events and parties happening across the city. In addition, we communicated public access routes, public transport connections, event ticketing and security matters – all with a positive 'can do' public-facing persona, avoiding any negative or alarming aspects typically associated with regulations or security details.
Speech writing and translation
EdenFrost provided speeches and translated press communications for the Mayor of Amsterdam and his esteemed colleagues. We aligned the sentiments of the local government officials and their pride to host such festivities in the city with those from the Royal House of the Netherlands.
On-site services
On the day of the event, our team was based at the International Press Centre in Amsterdam where we provided translations of hourly press releases from the City of Amsterdam. These covered event, municipal and security updates while also contributing social media coverage of the events taking place on the streets, including photos and video.
